Summary on Grant Application Form
The research will focus on describing the linear and nonlinear phenomena of reactive flows in stochastically-varying heterogeneous porous media. Stochastic partial differential equations describing these reactive flows and their coupling to the evolution of the porosity will be solved analytically in the linearized case and numerically in the general nonlinear case. The results of both approaches will relate the stochastic nature of the medium and other input parameters to the resulting microstructure due to the reactive flow. The results will be applied to obtain a better understanding and interpretations of practical situations of relevance to petroleum engineers and geoscientists.
