Summary on Grant Application Form
This proposal requests support for the continuation of previous research interests of the principal investigator as well as the continuation of some experimental research which has been previously undertaken within the Plasma Physics group at Imperial College. The requested funding will enable the construction of a pulsed power source (Marx Bank) along with the purchase of an XUV spectrometer and detector system which will allow the physics of capillary discharges to be examined, in particular with regard to their use as sources of coherent x-rays. It will also enable travel for participation in collaborative experiments in the United States where the use of capillary discharges for guiding high intensity laser radiation will be explored. The results of this work will be used as the basis for future experiments using capillary discharges in the UK.
