The advent of reliable surface enhanced resonance Raman scattering using (SERRS) methods increases the sensitivity of Raman detection by many orders of magnitude. The pioneering work on the development of SERRS methods Strathclyde group and collaborators in the PSDB and Zeneca indicates that reliable and sensitive detection possible in a short timescale and with few or no separation steps. This opens up a new field of sensitive which ahs a real commercial and academic advantage. Renishaw and Davin have a pre-eminent position in t) development of reliable Raman machines and are idally placed to develop a portable and robust system for use file and Strathclyde are well positioned to develop rugged fibre optic samples with SERRS active sensors. combination of this expertise to produce commercially effective integrated SERRS analysis systems for the targets described above is planned.
