Summary on Grant Application Form
We propose to develop a methodology for guiding designers through the formation and delivery of tenders for engineering products. The project will develop work already done at Cambridge on the use of Signposting technologies for guiding designers. We propose to develop this new technology to be suitable for larger scale projects in Aerospace, Electrical Industrial and Marine Applications, as represented by our industrial collaborators. At the same time we will integrate risk assessment and management techniques by our industrial tendering. Bristol having recently completed a survey of risk a management in British manufacturing is well placed to guide this work. The principal research problems arise because there are no machine-guided methodologies for risk abated tender formation. We will generate such a methodology and try to make it generic enough that the same tool can conveniently be used by our widely diverse collaborators. Risk abated tendering for larger scale projects is a complex process but in order to be useful we must build a tool that will represent a much complexity as is necessary to do the job and yet which keeps the cost of building the tender low.
