Summary on Grant Application Form
The aim of this project is to monitor crystallisation mechanisms in zeolites and related mesoporous materials using a combination of atomic force microscopy and high-resolution electron microscopy. AFM will give a picture of growth traces on a variety of crystalline phases while HREM will give the precise nature of the growth steps in terms of chemical building units. Zeolite phase transformations during crystallisation will also be observed as well the effects of post-crystallisation treatments in acidic and basic media. AFM will be further developed as an in situ tool for monitoring crystallisation of micro-crystalline zeolitic particles in a time-resolved manner.
