Summary on Grant Application Form
An existing quasi-three dimensional unsteady Navier Stokes program will be further developed to model flow past an array of flexible risers in a shear current. This work involves adapting a moving mesh technique from another similar program in oder to model the relative motion of the risers, incuding the extreme case of riser contact. The computer program will be first run for forced motion of a single riser using available experimentally measured inputs. After this validation, the program will be coupled to a one-dimensional structural dynamic model so that responses for single and multiple risers can be predicted for incident shear currents. A series of parametric studies of these responses will be carried out.
