In the majority of the theoretical work on fluid-structure interaction (FSI) in liquid filled pipe systems, damping mechanisms are ignore, or modelled too simply. Although this can be justifies for the initial phase of a transient vibration, the ignorance of dissipative machanisms is physically unrealistic for most types of vibration. Damping mechanisms determine (i) the heights of the vibration amplitudes near resonance conditions, (ii) the steepness of wave fronts and (iii) frequency-dependent system behaviour including visco-elasticity.The proposed research aims at widening the applicability of the applicants FSI models. The modal testing of industrial pipe systems and the analysis of plastic pipe systems, where FSI is likely to be of importance, two directions to go. The proposed derivation of FSI Transfer Matrices including unsteady turbulent pipe friction will be of benefit to all other researchers in the area.
