Stated preference techniques are now widely used in travel demand forecasting. However, it is the opinion of the applicants that abuses are developing that might result in its discredit. This project will identify areas of concern in current theory and practice of SP modelling. These will be examined, either analytically or using Monte Carlo simulation, and, and recommendations will be tested by means of novel applications to accident savings and environmental improvements in order to derive individuals subjective values for social evaluation.To produce a third edition of a successful book we will need to make substantial revisions. Three areas will be considered: modelling with SP; non-equilibrium models in a congestion-dominated environment; and dynamic assignment. In these tasks, close collaboration with Dr Willumsen, co-author of the book, will be important given his extensive practical experience.MicroGUTS was originally designed in the late seventies. The new version, which is currently under development, incorporates several important features, such as multiple modes, a more realistic network and equilibration models, and allows the treatment of emergent policies such as road pricing, and park-and-ride.
