The King's College contribution to this mm-wave multi-chip module research project is to investigate techiques for the design of the mixers, modulators and IF circuitry and to perform the final assembly of the demonstrators.It is expected that the optimum mixer circuit for the proposed mm-wave MCM technology will be very different to the standard, well-known techniques for MMIC mixer design. This is because it is possible to take advantage of the rectangular waveguide medium to creat simple balanced structures; using, for example, finline/slotline structures.Hence, there will be a very significant element of novelty in this part of the project. A comparison will be madebeteen diode mixers and resistive HEMT mixers. Modulators employing HEMPTs as passive variable-resistance elements will be designed, based on a proven topology
