Summary on Grant Application Form
Electrical Impedance is a recently developed medical imaging method, which is safe, rapid, inexpensive and portable, and has the potential to become a widespread medical imaging method. Groups in UK currently hold a leading position in the world. Proof of concept has been achieved over the past decade by bout a dozen groups, mostly in the UK, which have built prototype systems and demonstrated their accuracy in small clinical trials. If its clinical and commercial potential is to be realised, the next step is to standardize approaches across groups, and interest commercial equipment manufacture into sponsoring large clinical trails. A network will help to achieve this by helping integration of research across groups and publicizing developments to doctors and industrialists through annual meetings, electronic communication using a web site, and an electronic newsletter.
