|
The rationale for the project is to unite academic industrial workers in the field of telecommunications service engineering. A service in the telecommunications sense is a package of network functions that are marketed separately. Service engineering and creation thus concern the development of network functionality that is directly used by the subscriber. The project will build a network of UK workers in this field, acting as a single focus for collaboration. The project will facilitate exchange and exploitation of expertise and techniques. The academic partners have a strong background in rigorous design of telecommunications services, whereas the industrial partners have a strong background in their commercial development. The project will thus foster an exchange of advanced research and industrial insights.The project will create UK forum on engineering of telecommunications service. This will allow key UK industrialist and researchers to share problems and solutions. No such forum exists in the UK, so a formal and national forum is needed. The aim is to engender specific collaborations as outgrowths of the forum. The project will collate and publish its work so as to improve the competitiveness of UK telecommunications companies.
