De Haas-van Alphen effect measurements in a superconductor offer the possibility of probing the order parameter directly , an issue of central importance in unravelling the physics of unconventional superconductors. We propose here I) establish the method quantitatively by making precise angle-resolved measurements in the 'conventional' materials, Nb3Sn; V3Si and NbSe2, in order to map the anisotropy of the order parameter in k-space. ii) Extend experiments to some new materials; organic superconductors, particularly of the class, K-(BEDT-TTF) 2CuX, and the cerium-based superconductor CeRu2. In the latter, the influence of superconducting order on the quasiparticle mass will be studied in detail. iii) New samples of the heavy fermion superconductor Ube13 and the high-Tc cuprates, notably YBCO, will be investigated. A proper understanding of these is currently one of the most challenging problems in condensed matter physics. Experiments will extend over a wider range of field, temperature and pressure than employed previously, and will include, SQUID-based measurements in fields of 19T at 1mK, pulsed field measurements to 60T at 50mK and precision angle-resolved measurements at 3He temperatures in the new 25T superconducting magnet.
