Summary on Grant Application Form
Metathesis reactions involving inorganic metallacycles will be investigated. A variety of main group reagents will be reacted with M-S/Se-N compounds to form new ENX rings and cages. (X = for example RP(S), E = S, Se). The new rings and cages will be characterised by multinuclear NMR, X-ray crystallography and their redox properties studied. Polymerisation reactions will be tested. Nem Sn and Si reagents containing Se-N and S-N fragments will be prepared as cheaper alternatives to the M-S-N systems already known.Zinc and Cadmium -S-N (and Se-N) compounds will be synthesised and thermally decomposed to test their usefulness in the synthesis of II-VI materials.
