Summary on Grant Application Form
A three year study is proposed to develop methods to improve the predictive capability of aeroelastic instabilities of non-linear aircraft. A number of recent developments in the prediction of stability boundaries of non-linear systems will be applied to aeroelastic models that include unsteady non-linear aerodynamics. Linear and non-linear models will be determined by curvefitting the time domain simulations of the non-linear unsteady aerodynamic models. This instability prediction methods will be validated on data obtained from the above models. Procedures will be developed to enable the flutter clearance of non-linear aircraft. An important aspect of the programme will be the technology transfer into industry and the close interaction with industry during the duration of the work.
