Summary on Grant Application Form
The proposed research programme aims to undertake basic research in to the importance of various attributes of non-immersive virtual environment in the effective completion of search tasks by users, and the interaction between these attributes(the attributes which are expected to be explored in this research include: motion; colour; size; texture; shape; and resolution). This should provide designers with guidance on which aspects of representation in virtual environments are most important.Non-immersive VR/VE is chosen for study since this will be the expanding market for VR/VE in the near future. As well as offering improved understanding of the relation between aspects of virtual environments and effective search task completion for non-immersive systems, the research will also provide benchmark studies against which to compare immersive systems. This may help designers make better choices about the level of technology that they require in their VR/VE solution.
