Summary on Grant Application Form
A unified quantum theory of the current-perpendicular -to- plane giant magnetoresistance, tunnelling magnetoresistance and domain wall magnetoresistance will be developed. It will be based on the kubo formula and use fully realistic tight - binding bands. Supercell geometry will be used to introduce random lateral roughness at the interfaces. The theory magnetic anisotropy will be extended to deal with imperfect interfaces of various types.
