Summary on Grant Application Form
Magnetic Compton scattering is a synchrotron-based technique for studying spin-density in ferromagnets which has taken off with the development of high energy (Ex >100 keV) beam-lines at third generation synchrotrons. The interpretation is limited by the difficulty of making corrections for multiple scattering to the charge and magnetic terms in transmission geometry where the lack of symmetry makes the standard Monte Carlo algorithm, which has been developed by Felsteiner over the past two decades, difficult to adapt. In two months of dedicated time at Warwick University Felsteiner will solve this problem and thereby improve the interpretation of our spin density information.
