Summary on Grant Application Form
The research to be carried out is all related to the further development of the theory of multivalued groups which seem rather ubiquitous in mathematics. Professor Buchstaber has a great deal of experience of working on formal multivalued groups and this is a very important ingredient in our work. It is proposed to understand better the relationship between n-ring homomorphisms and work of Frobenius, Formanek and others. There is a very close relationship between n-ring homomorphisms and the symmetric products of spaces and varieties; this research plans to case new light on the properties of symmetric products. Another area to be investigated is the precise relationship between combinatorial algebras (such as Bose-Mesner and fusion algebras) and group algebras of n-valued groups; this extends recent work by Vershik and others.
