Summary on Grant Application Form
The proposal is directed at setting up a project which envisages design, manufacture and entry into services as a total process in which the definition of the requirements of the customer, the development of the design to met this requirement and the manufacture of the product are a seamless, highly coordinated and flexible process. It envisages the total DME process divided between a Core Team responsible for the product, the process linking with the extended company and a set of Macro Teams which are responsible for the task relating to the product design, manufacture etc these Macro Teams are made up from multi-disciplinary specialists, distributed across a number of locations with its skills and tasks defined by the Core Team. The personnel and associated tools within a given Macro Team are the micro components of the team and may appear in any number of appropriate Macros. This approach is, potentially, a key element in the creation of the distribution Virtual Enterprise which could make a significant contribution to the development of methods to allow the UK and European Aerospace Industries to confront the challenge of globalization.
