Summary on Grant Application Form
The aim of the PIPSEE Project is: to investigate the optimal efficiency of the extended enterprise in developing new products . The project will use a simulation of the extended enterprise to: analyse live data captured from a designated subset of PIP activities; model data transfer activities; and, optimise these dot the benefit of the extended enterprise as a whole. The performance criteria used to determine optimisation will be: minimum cost, minimum time and maximum performance. These parameters will relate to the products that the extended enterprise as a whole created, e.g. propulsion systems.A family of process models will be developed using a published, well-founded scientific method of data capture and processing (Boar. 96). These models will define the PIP as a high-level strategic process and hierarchy of operational sub-processes for the extended enterprise regarded as a human activity system. These models will clearly delineate: key roles and responsibilities; information and material flows; and, internal and external influences throughout the extended enterprise.
