Summary on Grant Application Form
Over many years the rheology group at U W Aberstwyth has built up a strong international reputation in non-Newtonian Fluid Mechanics, particularly in Rheometry and Numerical Simulation.By Stealth and begging, we have been able to keep abreast of most recent advances in sophisticated rheometrical devices. However, the new breed of rotational rheometer is very expensive and is outside our price range - we are after all located in a mathmatics department. We maintained our grade 5 rating in the recent RAE and we have been remarkably successful in obtaining research funding from the industry, the research councils and the EU, amassing over a million pounds between the two most recent RAE's. However, the sums required for a normal force facility of our existing Weissenberg Rheogoniometer and for a new AR1000 from TA Instruments, UK would be impossible to pace with or research grant application strategy which is forced on us by circumstances. Hence the request.
