Summary on Grant Application Form
This is a programme of theoretical research on Bose-Einstein condensed gases produced by evaporative cooling of trapped alkali gases. We shall develop simulation methods for treating the evolution of these gases when they have been driven by external fields or coupled out into a flowing beam. These methods will enable us to establish a temperature scale for these gases below 1 UK based on measurements of loss of coherence of condensate evolution. These simulation techniques will also be applied to the diagnosis and optimisation of atom laser output produced by evaporative cooling sources.
