Summary on Grant Application Form
We intend to establish a multidisciplinary centre for magnetic measurements under the supervision of the Magnetism and Superconductivity group at Warwick. The extensive experience of this group in collaborative magnetic measurements makes the Physics Department a particularly suitable site for such an endeavour. We have already identified the need for such studies within several science departments at the university. In the near future we plan to extend this service to other groups in the scientific community. A SQUID magnetometer is required to satisfy the demand for high resolution/sensitivity measurements over a wide range of materials of interest to physicists, material scientists, chemist and biologists. The requested instrumentation is an essential prerequisite for the establishment of such a centre. This plan has the financial backing of the university and has made it possible to negotiate a substantial discount from the manufacturer of the magnetometer and their agents. We believe that this project will enhance work within the mainstream and at the interfaces of all the disciplines mentioned and be a distinct foundation for future collaborations.
