The main aim of this research is to achieve within Volume Graphics all relevant effects that currently are possible within the standard rendering pipeline. It is anticipated that this work will build upon recent work by the principal investigator within the area. The motivation is the fact that the recent work demonstrates that Volume Graphics may offer a better scalability for complex scenes than traditional graphics.By achieving the objectives, it will be shown that it is possible to combine objects from many differing data sources consistently within the same scene. The result would be that traditional geometric objects, and data from either scanned (CT and MRI) or computed (simulation) sources would be rendered efficiently with consistent viewing parameters within the same scene.It is anticipated that the research programme will also demonstrate that the accuracy of the new rendering technique will be beneficial for the interpretation and understanding of such scanned or computed data.
