Summary on Grant Application Form
The research centres on two main areas, with the emphasis on the study of molecular complexes using REMPI and ZEKE photoelectron spectroscopy. In particular, the Rg.NO (Rg=Ar, Kr and Xe) complexes will be studied further by REMPI to elucidate in more detail the bonding in excited electronic states. ZEKE photoelectron spectroscopy will then be used to measure the cation intermolecular frequencies and adiabatic ionization energies. The work will continue with REMPI and ZEKE photoelectron studies on NO.X complexes (X=H2O, N2 and CO2), to obtain thermodynamic information on their cations, which are of great importance in ionospheric chemistry. Finally, the work will finish with a study of metal-containing complexes and radicals, such as Na.H2) and NaOH.
