Summary on Grant Application Form
Recent work has shown that hetermetallic Group 15/alkali metal phosphinidine cage complexes are single-source molecular precursors to Zintl compounds and intermetallic phases. This new approach provides a convenient, high yielding and low-temperature route to these species and has significant implications both for the detailed investigation of the chemistry of Zintl ions and to the electronics industry. We plan to prepare a variety of Zintl compounds of Group 14 and 15, to explore the coordination chemistry of these with transition metal clusters, main group organometallics and non-metals, and (in collaboration with Electron Tubes UK) to explore the use of the new single-source precursors in the fabrication of photodiode intermetallic films.
