Summary on Grant Application Form
A novel ammonia toxicity monitor will be purchased in order to investigate the toxicity of discharges from a range of process under invesitgation in the School of Water Sciences. Direct toxicity assessment of discharges to the environment has been proposed by the Environmental Agency as a control strategy for protection of the aqueous environment from toxic pollutants. Before a final methodology is selected, nitrification toxicity in effluents. Processes to be studied include biological nitrification itself along with activated sludge treatment of industrial effluents. A conclusion of the study, an indication of process effectiveness at dealing with toxic discharges will have been made.
