Summary on Grant Application Form
Workstations connected via very high speed networks have substantial price/performance advantages over supercomputers for parallel computations. We aim to demonstrate the viability of this approach by developing codes adapted to coarse-grained parellelisation. The applications range from microscopic models of high temperature superconductors to calculation of pollutants in furnace emissions. Most of the scientific projects focus on the problem of solving large sets of partial differential equations and various approaches are proposed. It is envisaged that the acquisition of this machine will deepen the existing collaborations between the applied mathematics and engineering groups and foster new ones.
