Summary on Grant Application Form
Prof. Greenberg will work in close conjunction with the applicants in establishing a mathematical framework for modelling spray combustion. This framework will define a collaborative programme which we intend to continue into the future. His particular objective during his 6 month stay will be to set up and investigate, using appropriate mathematical (mainly dynamical systems) and numerical analysis, a one-dimensional model for laminar spray combustion. This will enable us to identify key parameters, crucial physical processes and important mathematical features, prior to moving to more realistic models, including different geometrics and turbulent flows, in our future collaboration.During his stay, Professor Greenberg will interact with the various students and postdoc in the applicants groups, and also with the wider combustion community in Leeds and the UK, and will employ and disseminate his particular mix of mathematical abilities, physical insight and numerical expertise to the benefit of that community.
