Summary on Grant Application Form
A dual imaging with high facility speed frame transfer is sought to facilitate noth fundamental and practical studies of particulates ad fuel droplets. This facility will enable the development and application ofnew and novel methods for the rapid imaging of quantitative data on particulates and droplets in practical systems. The measurements of droplets and particulates such as soot in practical devices is of considerable interest particular with respect to clean technology and the devlopments of clean combustion systems. The proposed dual camera system will uniquely enable two research themes to be pursued to these ends. The first theme concerms the measurement od combustion particulates and the selective idenification of carbonaceous material. This requires optimum intensifier sensitivity and a high framing rate. The second concerns practical image measurement of liquid fuel placement and drop size in practical systems. Of particular importance to the envisaged stufies are the condsiderably enhanced performance of the latest intensifies CCD cameras employing generation IV intensifier systems and the high framing rates of modern frame transfer CCD systems.
