Summary on Grant Application Form
The purpose of the programme is to conduct a scoping study on premature closure in engineering design: on the way in which designers become fixated on using a particular solution for a particular application, of fail to see the possibilities of using solution in different applications. We want to gather evidence, primarily from fieldwork but also from the research literature, on the extent to which it occurs, not it originated, and how serious are the consequences. The aim is to apply for a full grant if the evidence points to premature closure as a significant problem in engineering design.
