Summary on Grant Application Form
We wish to develop novel instruments to investigate electron capture to ground and vibrationally exited state halogenated molecules. Fundamental information on electron attachment capture rates and cross sections will be obtained, and anion products determined. Studies of vibrational enhancement to electron attachment have the potential to lead highly specific, non-invasive, temporal and spatial control of a plasma through the use of an infra red laser. Selected ion-flow tube studies will be used to obtain reaction rate coefficients and product ion branching ratios of ion-molecule reactions. A database of fundamental parameters used in the modelling and simulation of plasma processing will be obtained.
