Summary on Grant Application Form
Dithiolene complexes of transition metals will be prepared incorporating sulphur-donor macrocyclic groups in the periphery of the molecule. The potential of these as sensors for metal ions will be assessed by measuring changes in spectroscopic and electrochemical properties in the presence of various metal ions. In particular, Ni, Pd and Pt dithiolene complexes will be studied electrochemically in the presence of environmentally important heavy metals. Complexes incorporating guest metal ions in the macrocycle ring will be prepared from these and studied in solution and in the solid state to understand the nature and extent of metal-metal interaction occurring.
