Summary on Grant Application Form
We have recently developed novel synthetic routes to medium-ring diphosphines containing 8-, 9- and 10-membered rings and a range of substituents on phosphorus via diphosphabicycloalkanes. This versatile approach permits the preparation of pure cis-isomers of medium-ring diphosphines which are potentially valuable chelating ligands. The aims of this proposal are:1. To exploit this synthetic route to prepare a wide variety of medium-ring cis-diphosphines, including chiral examples.2. To examine their potential as ligands in comparison with standard chelating diphosphines.3. To develop applications involving the use of medium-ring cis-diphosphines in catalytic processes.
