|
The central problem to be addressed is how design, engineering, construction and related firms acquire, develop, sustain and manage technology. Technical support functions are defined as R&D and/or other identifiable, formal central support services for developing technologies and solving technical problems. The work will involve:a) mapping ways in which technical resources are mobilised, fed back and developed within and between firms engaged in projects:b) measuring the types of activities carried out within formal R&D and technical support groups in these firms;c) developing best-practice models for the utilisation and feedback of technical support, between firms central technical services and their project teams.
