3-D-MATIC will address the needs of SMEs and other wishing to gain access to advanced 3D digitisation technology and 3D applications. It will help SMEs gain access to the 3D technologies and 3D expertise produced by collaborations produced with large organisations working within the consortium and also within relevant large-scale research projects (e.g. ESPRIT), and project work related to training.Services offered by the partnership include: 3D digitisation facilities, Bureau digitisation services, Consulting Services, Bespole development, Research programs, Technology Workshops/Forums and Think Tanks, Training programmes, 3D standards and Personnel exchange and would be administered by our Research Technology Organisation, the Turing Institute, which has an international reputation in3D imaging technology. The research programmes undertaken by the partnership would seek to advance the position of 3D technology from being a costly specialist field of endeavour, to that of a mainstream industrial capability.The partnership will follow Model A with the Turing Institute as RTO and Glasgow University as the principal academic partner, with the main linkage being through Computing Science, but including departments in the Faculties of Medicine (Forensic Medicine, Surgery, Dentistry etc.), Science, Engineering, and Social Science (Psychology), Glasgow School of Art and other Departments with a strong background in 3D imaging applications research.
