Summary on Grant Application Form
Fused taper coupler and fibre Bragg grating technologies are combined to achieve compact low-loss multiport fibre Bragg grating devices. If successful, these devices will be employed as optical add/drop multiplexors in future high-density, multi wavelength optical networks. Standard and long period gratings will be directly written in the uniform interaction region of conventional and mismatched fused fibre couplers. In addition, a new coupler concept, a single core to dual core fibre fused coupler which allows multiple gratings and thus multiple add/drop channels will be pursued.
