Summary on Grant Application Form
The biggest obstacle to the precise detemination of primary reflection amplitudes from seismic data for the location of bypasses hydocarbons and subtle stratigraphy is the presence of multiple reflections generated by the sea surface. We plan to test an original exact wave-theoretical formulation for removing sea-floor multiples from marine seismic surface. We plan to test an original exact wave-theoretical formulation for removing sea-floor multiples form marine seismic data. SInce the implementation would increase real 3D seismic data acquisition costs by about an order of magnitude and present formidable data processing problems, we will test the formulation on 2D synthetic seismic data. The work will take 30 man-months over two years.
