Summary on Grant Application Form
The research will perform a feasibility study into a new design of ultrasonic transducer, which can be made completely using standard processing techniques for silicon wafers. The advantages of such a design are that they could potentially be manufactured at low cost and with excellent repeatability. The work will construct a prototype device and this will be tested in water for bandwidth and sensitivity. This will enable its suitability for medical ultrasonics to be established.
