Summary on Grant Application Form
A series of detailed finite element calculations will be carried out on tubular joint and shell structures. The results of these analyses will be used, together with the macro flow-rules for each joint connection, to develop a set of rules for determining the residual deformations and loads (or moments) in a structure loaded beyond its elastic limit. If a simple set of rules, can be established, it will be feasible to perform complex analyses under a range of loading conditions, for complicated structures, at the design stage. This will significantly reduce computing requirements and design times.
