Summary on Grant Application Form
The aim is to investigate direct laser fabrication for the production of fully dense near net shape products from Ti6A14V and TiAl-based alloys. A CAM system is used to control the generation of a final shape from powder using laser beam powder interaction so that no tooling is required. The work will involve an investigation of powder size, range of powder size, laser powder etc on the accuracy, microstructure and properties of the product. The aim will be to produce simple test-pieces to develop a model of the process and finally to produce a simple demonstrator component.
