Summary on Grant Application Form
Functional ceramic powders will be used as a basis of research aimed at improving the flow, lubricity and anti-adherence of established pharmaceutical and confectionery formulations. This will be achieved by the fabrication of free-flowing, friable nanoparticle assemblies which break up during the primary mixing processes, leaving a residue of hydrophilic particles within granular structures. The ability of zirconified fibrillar or granular structure to also become strengthened will be compared with known toughening found with silicified structures.
