Hydro-entanglement is a relatively new method of bonding textile and high performance fibres and their blends together by using very fine, high pressure water jets to produce non-woven fabrics. The proposed research seeks to investigate the relationship between:(i) the design of the water jets system and the efficiency of energy delivery to the fabric(ii) equipment design and settings of key process parameters and the strength and structure of the resulting non-woven fabric.The work plan includes a substantial experimental study of the performance of an experimental hydro-entanglement machine and a theoretical study of the process.The project will enable the Industrial Partner to implement design improvements resulting from the work.
