Summary on Grant Application Form
Two projects are involved which involve the design and exploitation of ligands which form very stable complexes at metal surfaces by presenting preorganised arrays of donor atoms matching the metal network geometry in the surface oxides.1) New classes of polynucleating ligands containing uncomfortable chelate ring sizes will be used to provide high densities of donor atom functionalities in arrangements which minimise sequestration of metal ions from surfaces.2) Molecular receptors with functionalities which allow them to bind to metal (oxide) surfaces will be prepared and used to investigate the synergy of complexation to surfaces with guests which also contain metal legating groups. Detection of guests using a variety of techniques, including SERRS, FT-IR and electrochemistry, will be studied.
