Summary on Grant Application Form
This proposal forms part of a joint research programme involving DERA and is concerned with the fundamental studies into a kerosene oxidation mechanism. A deeper understanding of kerosene fuelled diffusion flames will be achieved by contriving experiments in which the connection is reduced to one spatial dimension (i.e. counter flow diffusion flame). The state of a reacting gas mixture (e.g. and temperature concentration of OH, CH, NO, CH4 and 02) at one spatial location will be obtained using a non intrusive optical method at different strain rates and initial oxidant temperature. The experimental data will be used to validate and modify if necessary the existence of the kerosine-oxidation mechanism. The newly developed mechanism will be incorporated into a Computational Fluid Dynamics code through flamemelet look-up tables. The conserved scalar/assumed pdf approach will be used to model the turbulence chemistry interaction. In the final stage of the proposed project a CFD prediction, which is based on laminar and flamelet formulation will be validated against internal gas turbine combustor measurement obtained at high pressure.
