This proposal seeks resources to design, purchase and evaluate a magnet design which is optimised for Stray Field Magnetic Resonance Imaging of thin films. The initial specification and design of the magnet will be carried out in collaboration with Resonance Instruments. RI will then carry out detailed engineering design and a prototype magnet will be built. In parallel with this activity, the probes and sample cells that are designed specifically for this magnet geometry will be constructed. The system performance will then be evaluated (with reference to the Surrey STRAFI system) in terms of resolution, magnet specification and stability. As this geometry will be particularly suited to thin film solids imaging, it is expected that these will be the first applications to benefit from this new system. Areas of interest include paint and polymer films, food science and bio-materials..
