Summary on Grant Application Form
The project is in the area of computer aided assembly planning for manufacturing and aerospace industry. The principle aim is to produce a functional specification and a generic methodology for assembly planning based on industrial requirements and to carry out a feasibility study of using Product Data Management (PDM) systems to integrate the planning system with CAD systems. The project will emphasise manual assembly of mechanical products, as the principles can be extended to suit robotic and automatic assembly. It is also anticipated that a step-by-step approach to the automation of assembly planning would be taken considering the complexity of the problem and the reality of manufacturing situations.
