Summary on Grant Application Form
The purpose of this work is the development of a 3D model that will accurately predict the turbulent oscillatory flow over a rippled sand bed and the accompanying transport of sand particles. This model will be used to investigate the sedimentation and siltation in a number of cases of potential importance in sea beds and river estuaries. Comparison with experimental data will be made. The data generated by the model will also be used to form a database for the virtual reality centre, currently under development at RAL. The VR environment has the potential of making a large contribution to the visualisation and understanding of complex unsteady motion. A particular area of importance will be the transport of particulates.
