Summary on Grant Application Form |
The bonding of silicon nitride (Si3 N1) to a ferritic oxide dispersion strengthened (ODS) steel will be investigated in two novel ways. Firstly, these materials will be diffusion brazed using Ag-Cu filler alloys and after metallization of the bonding surfaces with Zr deposited by magnetron sputtering. Secondly, Fe and Ni based interlayers containing the melting point depressants boron and silicon will be used to produce joints capable of operating at a high temperature. The joints produced will be characterised and tested.
