Summary on Grant Application Form
This proposal seeks funds to enable detailed exploration and characterisation of diamond CVD using a plasma jet reactor. Aspects of the basic science underpinning the process will be investigated both through analysis of the deposited material, its properties and its dependence on the growth parameters, and from the perspective of the gas phase chemistry and physics leading to diamond formation. These latter will be probed both by optical emission spectroscopy and by a range of laser spectroscopies, and modelled using the CHEMKIN code. Particular attention will be focused on the similarities and differences between plasma jet diamond growth and that prevailing in the more traditional (milder) hot filament and low power microwave reactors.
